AMD Revenues Up 17 Percent to $6.8 Billion

Chipmaker AMD reported a net income of $771 million on revenues of $6.8 billion in the quarter ending September 28. Those figures represent gains of 191 percent and 17 percent, year-over-year (YOY), and its revenues were a corporate record.

That said, the results fell just short of expectations, with AMD citing supply chain constraints that prevented it from meeting the demand for its datacenter chips.

“We delivered strong third quarter financial results with record revenue led by higher sales of EPYC and Instinct data center products and robust demand for our Ryzen PC processors,” AMD chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su said. “Looking forward, we see significant growth opportunities across our data center, client, and embedded businesses driven by the insatiable demand for more compute.”

AMD’s Data Center business delivered record revenues of $3.5 billion, up 122 percent YOY. This part of the business is growing rapidly, though AMD is struggling to keep up with market leader NVIDIA. Revenues from AMD’s Client segment, which designs PC chips, was up 29 percent YOY to $1.9 billion, while Gaming revenues fell 69 percent to $462 million. Embedded added another $927 million in revenues, down 25 percent YOY.
