Qualcomm Announces Entry-Level Snapdragon X PC Chip

Qualcomm Snapdragon X

As Intel and AMD both announced new CPUs ahead of CES today, Qualcomm just revealed a new ARM-based Snapdragon X chip for PCs. This new chip is designed for entry-level PCs priced in the $600 range, and it will complement the Snapdragon X Plus variant with just 8 CPU cores that the company announced back in September.

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon X comes with 8 Oryon CPU cores, just like the 8-core Snapdragon X Plus, but with a lower 3.0 GHz maximum multi-core frequency and no boost frequency. The chip also delivers 1.7 teraflops of GPU power (just like the low-end version of the 8-core Snapdragon X Plus), and it also has the same 45 TOPS NPU as the rest of the Snapdragon X Series lineup.

According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon X delivers up to 163% faster performance than a similar system with an Intel Core 5 120U CPU, and it does so while providing much better performance per watt. Devices powered by the Qualcomm new chip will also support the Copilot+ features that x86 systems in the same price range don’t have.

“With an integrated power efficient GPU, Snapdragon X supports dynamic graphics ideal for creating presentations, web browsing, or streaming content,” Qualcomm said today. “Snapdragon X is an ideal solution for students, freelance workers, and budget-conscious consumers who need a reliable and powerful laptop that can keep up with their busy lives.”

Qualcomm said today that Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo will release the first devices powered by its new Snapdragon X in “early 2025.” Today, the company also teased the world’s first mini desktop PC powered by Snapdragon X Series, which the company plans to reveal at CES tomorrow.
