The Google TV Streamer is currently available at its lowest-ever price thanks to a 25% discount on both Amazon and the Google Store. For a limited time, the device can be purchased for $74.99, and the $25 discount comes right ahead of the release of Gemini for Google TV on the media player.
Google released the TV Streamer back in September 2024, and it replaced the existing Chromecast with Google TV streaming sticks. The new device is available in hazel and porcelain colors, and it comes with a redesigned remote, 4GB of memory, 32GB of storage, a future-proof HDMI 2.1 port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a USB-C port on the rear for power supply.
The Google TV Streamer also supports the Matter smart home standard, and it can be used as a Thread border router. Gemini for Google TV, the new Gemini experience optimized for the smart TV platform, will also roll out to the Google TV Streamer and more devices this winter. It’s currently only available on TCL QM9K Google TV.
Overall, the Google TV Streamer is your best and cheapest option if you want to access the Google TV platform on your TV. The interface doesn’t have as many ads as Amazon’s Fire TV platform, and the TV Streamer fixed most of the hardware shortcomings of the previous Chromecast with Google TV devices. While it’s not as “premium” as something like the Apple TV 4K, which starts at $129.99, it’s still a great value if you take into account the addition of an Ethernet port and the upcoming Gemini for Google TV experience.
