AMD announced a new flagship PC processor, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, which delivers dual-chiplet 3D technology for improved performance.

“Introducing the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor, powered by 2nd Gen AMD 3D V-Cache technology across dual CCDs, built for creators and developers who demand performance without compromise,” the AMD video announcement explains. “Expanded on-chip memory helps reduce latency and keep demanding workflows responsive, from complex timelines and large datasets to parallel builds and simulations.”

The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 will be available worldwide on April 22, the company told me. It’s the first-ever PC processor to provide two chiplets, both powered by AMD 3D V-Cache technology. And it’s the most powerful AMD PC processor yet, the first to offer 16 Zen 5 cores and 208 MB of total cache.

This, AMD says, helps the processor deliver lower latency and increased throughput, with a 5 to 10 percent performance boost over the current Ryzen 9 9950X3D across DaVinci Resolve, Blender, and other creative workloads, and large-scale source code builds like Unreal Engine and Chromium.

This is a nice upgrade from AMD, given that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is still the fastest PC chip for gaming, despite recent Intel “Arrow Lake” announcements. But the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is yet another step up, AMD says.
