Microsoft’s New Surface Pro With Snapdragon X2 Elite Chip Leaks

Microsoft Surface Pro Snapdragon X2 Elite

After launching new Business editions of its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop with Intel’s latest Panther Lake chips, Microsoft is expected to announce refreshed consumer versions powered by Qualcomm’s X Series 2 chips very soon. Today, the German blog WinFuture (via 9to5Google) published leaked marketing images of the 13-inch Surface Pro with a Snapdragon X2 Elite chip, with no visible design changes.

According to the marketing materials, the Snapdragon X2 Elite version of the tablet will still come with an OLED touchscreen and offer up to 32GB of memory and up to 1TB of removable storage. It will offer a bit more battery life, however, with up to 15.5 hours of local video playback compared to 14 hours on the current model.

Compared to the original Snapdragon X Elite chip from 2024, the X2 Elite uses a more efficient 3nm manufacturing process. It also features 3rd-gen Oryon CPU cores, as well as a more powerful Adreno GPU delivering a 2.3x increase in performance per watt and power efficiency over the previous generation. For AI workloads, the newer NPU offers 80 TOPS of AI processing, compared to 45 TOPS on the previous generation.

The newer Surface Pro will still be offered in black, platinum, and gold colors, but the blue finish has apparently been discontinued. WinFuture expects the new tablet to be announced on June 16, which is very soon.

At its Build developer conference this week, Microsoft revealed a new Surface Laptop Ultra powered by Nvidia’s ARM-based RTX Spark Chip. While the announcement was light on hardware details, the new chip, with its Blackwell RTX GPU and up to 128GB of unified memory, will likely be very expensive. The latest Intel-powered Surface for Business already starts at $1,949.99, and the new Qualcomm versions are sure to be impacted as well by rising memory prices.
