Google has partnered with XREAL, a Chinese provider of consumer AR glasses, to launch the AURA, the first wired extended reality (XR) glasses powered by Android XR. The XREAL Aura is available to pre-order today in the US, Canada, and Korea, and the company announced a $1,099 launch price in the US that will be available through the end of the year.

The XREAL AURA is just under 95 grams, as the processing power has been moved to a wired puck that also includes the battery. The XR glasses feature transparent lenses hiding Sony Micro-OLED displays with a 1920×1200 resolution per eye and up to a 120Hz refresh rate. The glasses also support three nose pad sizes and custom prescription lenses for nearsightedness and farsightedness.

Android XR on the XREAL Aura provides access to hundreds of apps optimized for the new platform, as well as millions of mobile and tablet apps from the Google Play Store. Users can freely arrange apps across up to five virtual screens, but they can also mirror their PC screen on the XREAL Aura through a wired connection.

Android XR supports gesture controls for navigating the interface and interacting with spatial content. There’s also a touchpad on the compute puck offering more precise controls, and users can also connect Bluetooth keyboards and mice to get a PC-like experience.

Google’s Gemini chatbot is deeply integrated into Android XR, and it can understand what users see and provide contextual assistance. “Gemini works across everything in view, including your laptop window, so you can ask it to tidy up your windows or brainstorm about whatever you’re looking at. And starting today, it can do more than talk you through an answer: Share your view, and Gemini can highlight what to focus on, in the room around you or on your screen,” Google explained today.

With gesture controls, you can easily manipulate digital content, navigate interfaces, and interact with spatial content. When gestures aren’t practical, you can also use the touchpad on the compute puck or connect Bluetooth devices for precise, convenient control.

The XREAL AURA will start shipping in mid-November in the US, Canada, and Korea, and starting November 2 in Japan. The XR glasses will be competing with the more premium Meta VR Glasses that will launch in Spring 2027 for $1,299.99.
