CES 2016: Hands On With The Samsung ATIV Book 9 Spin

Samsung has, for years, been playing in the ultrabook space that started way back with the Series 9 laptops. Fast forward to today and the company is showing off their latest device, the ATIV Book 9 Spin, that packs a lot under the hood in a tiny package.

The laptop can in this post has a Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, .9MP front facing camera, a 13.3in display sporting a resolution of 3200×1800 and weighs 2.87 lbs. The device is .59 in thick and has three USB 3 ports.

As the name suggests, the hinge on this device allows it to fold all the way back, giving you versatility in how you view the display.

The Book 9 Spin, according to Samsung, gets 7.3 hours of battery life but until we get more time with the device, take it with the usual pinch of salt.

If you have used any of the other Samsung laptops from this line, you will have a good understanding of the fit and finish. The build quality is excellent and the materials used have a premium feel to them.

The keyboard, while the keys are a tad-short on the travel distance, will likely present no issues for daily use. And in our limited testing, the trackpad presented no problems either.

There’s no question that there are a lot of new laptops to choose from and every vendor is going all-in when it comes to features which means that if one laptop does not fit your needs, there is surely another identically speced competitor in the market. With that being said, it’s important for you to be picky when selecting a machine as the retail channel has a lot to choose from, so finding the perfect laptop shouldn’t be too much trouble.

The Book 9 Spin from Samsung has a lot going for it in terms of specs and looks quite good too. With a starting price of around $1400, it falls in-line with other high-end ultrabooks.
