Microsoft to Hold Surprise AI-Themed Event Today

Microsoft will hold a surprise media event at its Redmond campus today at 10 AM PT. The company sent invites to select publications where it teased that CEO Satya Nadella will “share some progress on a few exciting projects” (via The Verge).

The event will come just a day after Google officially announced Bard, its ChatGPT competitor. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI will attend Microsoft’s event and it seems pretty clear that the company could officially announce a new ChatGPT integration in Bing. The integration actually went live for some Bing users last week, but Microsoft has since pulled it.

According to previous reports, Microsoft is planning to integrate GPT-4, a newer and faster version of ChatGPT into its Bing search engine. Microsoft also extended its partnership with OpenAI last month and announced that it will integrate the company’s cutting-edge AI technology into its consumer and enterprise products.

Last week, the company started sending more early access invites to Microsoft Designer, its new graphic design app powered by OpenAI’s DALL-E image generation technology. Microsoft also integrated ChatGPT into its Viva Sales platform, which will help sellers to generate personalized email responses using data from Microsoft Graph and CRM platforms such as Dynamics 365 and Salesforce.

Microsoft’s event today will be followed by a Google event about search on AI tomorrow, February 8. While the latter will air on YouTube, Microsoft won’t be offering a live stream for its media event later today. Anyway, it’s pretty rare to see Microsoft and Google trying to compete for our attention this week and we’ll be covering all the announcements here.
