Microsoft Announces Special Event on September 21

Microsoft Special Event September 21

Microsoft has just sent invites for a “special event” that will be held on September 21, 2023. While the invite doesn’t mention any details, it’s safe to expect that new Surface devices are on the agenda.

According to a previous report, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 is one of the new Surface devices that’s in the pipeline for later this year, along with the Surface Go 4 and the Surface Laptop Go 3. So far, no specific details have leaked regarding the next Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, but you never know.

Microsoft may also use this upcoming event to discuss the Windows 11 version 23H2, the next annual update for the OS. The update is currently being tested with Insiders on the Beta channel, and it will be delivered to all users running Windows 11 version 22H2 as an enablement package. The list of new features includes native support for .rar and other archive formats, and the new Windows Copilot that will bring a new AI assistant to the OS in place of Cortana.

AI has been a big focus for Microsoft this year, and this is likely going to be a big theme during this special event. Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer said earlier this year that “‘AI is going to reinvent how you do everything on Windows,” and maybe Microsoft can use its own Surface devices aided with neural processing units (NPUs) to showcase what’s possible next month.
