OnePlus 7T to Launch Next Week

OnePlus will launch its next flagship smartphones, the OnePlus 7T series, next week via a virtual event. But CEO Pete Lau has revealed the final design of the OnePlus 7T Pro handset ahead of the launch. (OnePlus will likely announce a less expensive OnePlus 7T next week as well.)

“Our brand new design with 4th generation matte-frosted glass,” Mr. Lau tweeted this morning, linking to a OnePlus forum post in which the firm explains the design.

“No detail is too small to be perfected,” the post reads. “When you look at the back of a phone, the camera is perhaps the first thing that attracts your attention. It’s an incredibly important piece of the design puzzle, so we’ve completely reimagined the camera housing for our upcoming flagship. The camera should make a bold visual statement, but also flow naturally with the overall design for a seamless appearance.”

According to the company, the OnePlus 7T Pro design offers perfect symmetry from any orientation and elegantly balances the phone’s triple-lens camera system. It’s the result of over 50 design iterations.

I hope that OnePlus dramatically improved the quality of the photos one can take with this handset: Its previous flagship, the OnePlus 7 Pro, is otherwise nearly perfect.

I enjoyed the OnePlus 7 Pro. That being said, I ended up getting off T-Mobile Jump and elected to go get the Pixel 3a XL which is what I should have done in the first place. The 3a XL offers superior photography chops and I prefer the polycarbonate phone case which makes the phone lighter.

I do miss the 90hz refresh that the OP7 panel had which was really delightful. But is it worth $200+ dollars in device value? Not really. My brain has adjusted to the panel on the 3a XL and it has adjusted to the slightly slower response time due to the Snapdragon 670 SoC.

Photography prowess aside. The truely magical thing is the 3a XL after upgrading to Android 10 has actual multi-day battery life. Even on days where I have lots of screen on time and am doing a decent amount of wireless use I get to the end of the day with more than 70% battery left. It is really incredible.

Hmmm. I strongly disagree with comments on OnePlus cameras these days. I'd say they look different but not any worse. Camera quality is always one of my top concerns, and I remember being pretty nervous ordering the OnePlus 6. Turns out it's a great camera. My mom's Pixel 3a also takes great pictures. Anyone else feel this way?

In reply to PhilipVasta:

I have the Pixel 3a and love it for the nice photos.

I have a landscaping business and many days I finish jobs 10 minutes before sunset and with this camera I have a good 30 minutes to take very decent pictures for my customers.

But OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro just released… there's already a 7T coming! Yikes.
