It’s finally here. Well, almost. Facebook, the owners of WhatsApp, is finally rolling out a new dark theme for WhatsApp after debuting a dark mode on Facebook Messenger last year.
The new dark mode is not available to all users yet. It’s first launching for WhatsApp on Andriod, and it’s only available to beta users for now, reports WABetaInfo.

When WhatsApp does roll out the new theme to everyone, you will be able to switch between the themes from the app settings, and you can also set the theme to change based on Battery Saver, with the dark theme being enabled when Battery Saver is on. There’s also an option to set the theme to System Default, which follows whatever your Android theme is.
The new WhatsApp dark mode is, um, not the best. It’s more of a dark-blue theme that is identical to the original Twitter dark theme — so hopefully, WhatsApp will follow Twitter’s lead and introduce more of a true dark/black theme. Or just simply copy what Messenger is doing, because honestly, the dark mode on Messenger is just so much better than the new WhatsApp dark theme.
As for iPhone users, it’s not clear when the dark mode will arrive for those using WhatsApp on iOS.
