Microsoft has started rolling out the May 2022 update for the original Surface Duo (via Windows Central). This latest update brings security fixes for the Android OS as well as improvements to device stability.
The software giant also mentioned in the release notes for this update that the camera experience has been improved in this release. More specifically, the update “improves in-app camera experience in dual-screen modes for applications with dynamic orientation requirements.”

While this isn’t exactly clear, these improvements should apply to scenarios when an app that spans the two screens of the Surface Duo makes use of the camera, with screen rotation possibly happening as well. Screen rotation can sometimes be quirky on Android devices, and not all apps currently support spanning or dynamic orientation on the Surface Duo.
As usual, Surface Duo owners can download this latest software update from the Settings app. The May 2022 Update for the Surface Duo 2 hasn’t been released yet but it’s likely coming very soon.
