Microsoft introduced today its all-new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop today alongside new “Copilot+ PCs” from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung. It’s the first time Microsoft is exclusively using Qualcomm chips on its new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop for consumers, and the company dropping the numbers for these models suggest that this is a fresh start for the two product lines.
“Surface was created to lead the PC industry with innovation and technology that showcases the best of Microsoft and empowers our customers to achieve more,” said Pete Kyriacou, CVP, Microsoft Devices. “We’ve been at the forefront of new PC categories, with thoughtful designs and new features that inspire our customers. And as we dive into the new wave of AI, Surface continues to put our customers first.”
According to Microsoft, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus chips make the brand new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop faster than Apple’s M3 MacBook Air. The Redmond giant also mentioned its new Prism emulation engine that delivers a 2x performance boost for emulated x86 apps compared to the Surface Pro 9 with a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chip.
The new Surface Pro should be 90% faster than Surface Pro 9, and the other big changes include an optional 13” OLED HDR 120Hz display and a Surface Pro Flex keyboard that can work wirelessly. The new Surface accessory also has a larger customizable haptic touchpad and lets users store their Surface Slim Pen. The latter has also been improved with Zero Force inking, ultra-precise shading, 4,096 points of pressure sensitivity, and a built-in haptic engine.
The other highlights on the new Surface Pro include a 1440p Quad HD camera with ultrawide field of view that supports Windows Studio Effects, a 10.5MP Ultra HD rear-facing camera, dual Studio mics with voice focus, and 2W stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. The tablet also comes with 2 USB-C ports, a Surface Connect port for charging, and there’s an additional nanoSIM port on 5G models.
The new Surface Pro is available with 16GB or 32GB of memory and up to 1TB of storage. Microsoft promises up to 14 hours of video playback and up to 10 hours of active web usage, which isn’t exactly exceptional. The tablet starts at $999.99 for the Snapdragon X Plus model with an LCD display, while the Snapdragon X Elite model with OLED display starts at $1,499. You can pre-order the new Surface Pro today on Microsoft’s website and it will start shipping on June 18

Microsoft says that its new Surface Laptop models are 86% faster than the previous generation, with up to 20 hours of battery life on the 13.8” version and up to 22 hours on the 15” model. Just like the new Surface Pro, they can also power up to three external 4K monitors.
Both models come with 120Hz displays, a Full HD Surface Studio Camera that supports AI-powered Windows Studio Effects including Automatic Framing, Portrait Blur, Creative Filters and Voice Focus. There are also dual Studio mics with voice focus and omnisonic speakers with Dolby Atmos.
Microsoft also offers 16GB or 32GB memory options and up to 1TB of storage on the new Surface Laptop. Regarding the ports selection, both models come with 2 USB-C ports, a Surface Connect port, and a headphone jack, though the 15-inch model has an additional USB-A port and MicroSDXC card reader.
