
Qualcomm is announcing a faster 5G modem for Android smartphones at MWC 2025 along with several other advances.
“At Qualcomm, we invent breakthrough technologies that transform how the world connects, computes, and communicates,” Qualcomm president and CEO Cristiano Amon said. “Our focus is on driving innovation to enable a future where everyone and everything can be intelligently connected.”
Key announcements include:
- Qualcomm X85 5G modem. Qualcomm’s 8th generation 5G modem adds AI-powered enhancements and now offers peak download speeds up to 12.5 Gbps, up from 10 Gbps in the previous generation.
- 4G modems for IoT. These include the first-ever integrated SIM (iSIM) for ultra-low power applications across smart meters, healthcare devices, wearables, and other IoT devices.
- Qualcomm Dragonwing. The recently announced Dragonwing cellular infrastructure for industry has been deployed by wireless carriers like Viettel in Vietnam and NTT DOCOMO in Japan for use in their 5G O-RAN networks.
- Qualcomm Dragonwing FWA Gen 4 Elite Platform. The latest generation of Qualcomm’s Dragonwing Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution is powered by the X85 and offers 12.5 Gbps downlink 5G connectivity, on-device AI with 40 TOPs of hardware accelerated performance for AI-enhanced traffic classification and a coming generation of new AI network edge innovations.
