MWC 2025: Qualcomm X85 5G Modem Hits 12.5 Gbps

Qualcomm is announcing a faster 5G modem for Android smartphones at MWC 2025 along with several other advances.

Key announcements include:

• Qualcomm X85 5G modem. Qualcomm’s 8th generation 5G modem adds AI-powered enhancements and now offers peak download speeds up to 12.5 Gbps, up from 10 Gbps in the previous generation.
• 4G modems for IoT. These include the first-ever integrated SIM (iSIM) for ultra-low power applications across smart meters, healthcare devices, wearables, and other IoT devices.
• Qualcomm Dragonwing. The recently announced Dragonwing cellular infrastructure for industry has been deployed by wireless carriers like Viettel in Vietnam and NTT DOCOMO in Japan for use in their 5G O-RAN networks.
• Qualcomm Dragonwing FWA Gen 4 Elite Platform. The latest generation of Qualcomm’s Dragonwing Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution is powered by the X85 and offers 12.5 Gbps downlink 5G connectivity, on-device AI with 40 TOPs of hardware accelerated performance for AI-enhanced traffic classification and a coming generation of new AI network edge innovations.
