OxygenOS 11 Open Beta Now Available on OnePlus 8 Series

With Google releasing Android 11 earlier today, OnePlus announced that it is releasing the Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 Open Beta, albeit only to those with a OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro at this time.

“Thanks to our close collaboration with Google, OnePlus is one of the first smartphone brands to be able to officially bring Android 11 to you—on the day it is officially launched—with the first open beta of OxygenOS 11,” a OnePlus staffer identified as Gary C. writes. “Now faster and smoother with new design elements that add a bit of boldness to stock Android, we think the updated layout makes one-handed operation easier and more intuitive—and just gives you a better and more beautiful overall experience.”

Put this on my 8 Pro last night and like it a lot. There is a lot to experiment with and get to know here — probably more than I need or would ever use, but I will try to work through it all in the next couple of days just to understand it.

I see some unexpected camera enhancements as well, but that's probably just OnePlus throwing some home grown improvements into their own software at the same time they push out their flavor of the new Android. The much discussed and frequently dismissed Photochrom setting now has several additional shade and color intensity variations filling in the gradient between original image and processed infrared. (I still think OP is planning to do something with infrared in the future — anyone with an IR illuminator can confirm that all the back cameras still see infrared.)
