Google Celebrates 10 Years of Google Play

In celebration of Google Play’s 10th anniversary, Google is unveiling a new logo and icon for the service and a 10x Google Points promotion.

“When Google Play launched in 2012, it set out to eliminate many of the challenges consumers faced to enjoy entertainment on their phones,” a Google representative told me. “It has evolved since then, helping consumers enjoy their favorite apps and games both on their phone and beyond – including on laptops, TVs, and tablets. Google Play is continuing to build on this vision in the future, including bringing Play games across multiple platforms via the Google Play Games for PC product and optimizing apps and games for tablet/large screen experiences.”

Google says that over 2.5 billion people in over 190 countries now use Google Play every month, and that the store is serviced by over 2 million app and game developers.

To celebrate this milestone, Google is offering customers 10x points on everything they buy by activating a points booster. The official start date varies by country, so you can visit the Earn tab on the Play Points website to learn more. Google Play was poor name for a app store. I am surprised that Google didn't go though more naming and branding changes over the last 10 years.
