Google Releases Android 15, Reveals New Features

In separate announcements, Google says it has released Android to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) today, ahead of its release to Pixel and other devices, and it is making 5 new features available today across all supported Android versions.

“Today we’re releasing Android 15 and making the source code available at the Android Open Source Project (AOSP),” Google vice president Matthew McCullough explains. “Android 15 will be available on supported Pixel devices in the coming weeks, as well as on select devices from Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi in the coming months.”

Android 15 includes a host of small improvements for developers, and Google has started a new Spotlight Week series in which it will deep dive into these improvements with blog posts, videos, sample, code, and more. Note, too, that Google recently released the Android Studio Koala Feature Drop with support for Android 15 and the new Pixels.

For users, Google just announced five new Android features that will be available across supported versions of the OS. These include Gemini support for the TalkBack screen reader on compatible devices, music search in Circle to Search, the ability to listen to pages in Chrome, the availability of the Android Earthquake Alerts System in all U.S. states and six territories., and offline support in Google Maps on Wear OS.
