Google Issues a Surprise Pixel Drop That’s All About AI

Google usually releases one Pixel Drop each quarter, but the online giant has a nice surprise for Pixel users this morning: An off-schedule extra Pixel Drop with three new AI-powered features.

“We’ve got a surprise Pixel Drop for you,” a rather terse announcement on Google’s The Keyword blog notes.

Google’s previous Pixel Drop arrived just one month ago alongside the initial stable release of Android 16. This unexpected new Pixel Drop adds the following new features:

  • Veo 3 on Pixel. If you bought a Pixel 9 Pro or 9 Pro XL, you received a free year of what’s now called the Google AI Pro subscription, which normally costs $19.99 per month. And that now includes access to Veo 3, Google’s video generation AI model, a perk that was previously reserved for those with a Google AI Ultra subscription.
  • Circle to Search improvements. Google has brought its AI Mode to Circle to Search in the U.S. and India so you can learn more about the on-screen item you’re searching for and ask follow-up questions. There’s also a new game help feature so you can find videos and articles about the game you’re playing–timestamped to the exact spot you are in the game–without switching apps. You can learn more about these features here.
  • Gemini on Pixel Watch (and other Wear OS smartwatches). Google has started rolling out Gemini to Pixel Watch and Wear OS 4+ smartwatches made by OnePlus, OPPO, Samsung, and Xiaomi. To activate it, just say “Hey Google,” press and hold on the watch’s side button, or tap the Gemini icon on-screen. “Gemini on Wear OS lets you speak naturally with your watch, understanding your speech patterns and delivering fast, concise responses right on your wrist,” Google explains. It can interact with Gmail, Google Calendar, and other Google services.
