I’m not sure there’s anything new here, but Microsoft is recommending that businesses and individuals reaching the end of support for Windows 10 next month consider upgrading to a Snapdragon X-based Copilot+ PC running Windows 11 on Arm. In doing so, it’s reminding customers that Windows 11 on Arm delivers better compatibility and performance than many seem to understand, plus all the efficiency and battery life advantages that are unique to this platform.
“With device refresh cycles on the horizon, Windows 10 approaching end of support on Oct. 14, 2025, and AI-powered PCs becoming essential tools for enhancing productivity, consumers and developers alike are excited by the possibilities Copilot+ PCs offer,” Microsoft corporate vice president Mike Adams writes. “The Arm app ecosystem continues to expand, with native Arm versions available for apps representing 90 percent of total user minutes, thus providing efficient, high-performance experiences across the scenarios that matter most to our customers.”
Microsoft provides long lists of native Windows 11 on Arm apps across categories like endpoint protection, VPN and zero trust network access, endpoint management, productivity, creative, and social, web, and entertainment, though you’d have to be purposefully ignoring this space if you don’t already know how good compatibility is today.
Not helping matters, however, Adams compares the performance of these laptops to the MacBook Air M2, which is now two generations out of date. But we should be getting some good news on that front next week, when Qualcomm unveils its second-generation Snapdragon X chips at its annual Snapdragon Summit.
