Apple Will Reportedly Release iPhone Air 2 in Early 2027

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that Apple is not giving up on the poorly selling iPhone Air and will release a new version in early 2027. He cites multiple sources at the company.

As one would expect of this update, the iPhone Air 2 will add a second camera lens, for ultra-wide photos, and improved battery life. These will address the biggest issues with the original iPhone Air, though there are other problems, like the single speaker.

Gurman says that prototypes of the iPhone Air 2, called V62 internally, are in advanced testing within the company. It will retain the basic look of the current iPhone Air, though it’s not clear if the hoped-for battery life improvements will require a larger battery or just software-based efficiency gains. And it will run on an Apple Silicon A20 Pro processor, like the next iPhone Pro models.

Gurman and others previously reported that the iPhone Air also serves as the basis for Apple’s upcoming folding phone, called iPhone Ultra. It’s likely that Apple will announce the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max and the Ultra in September, but ship the foldable later in 2026. And then it will release the non-Pro iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 in Spring 2027 in a staggered release cycle that breaks with Apple’s long-established pattern and more closely matches Samsung’s release cycle. A 20th anniversary iPhone and second-generation foldable are expected in late 2027, he says.

I am very interested in an iPhone Air 2 with two camera lenses and improved battery life, and would seriously consider switching if this comes together.
