Apple Release macOS Sonoma

Apple announced today that macOS Sonoma 14.0 is now available as a free update for all supported Macs.

“With macOS Sonoma, desktop widgets unlock a new way to personalize the Mac and get more done, while stunning new screen savers, big updates to video conferencing and Safari, along with optimized gaming make the Mac experience better than ever,” the announcement explains.

Here’s a rundown of the top features.

Widgets improvements. You can now place widgets right on the macOS desktop and view and interact with them alongside open app windows. And thanks to new Continuity integration, you can now add widgets from your iPhone as well.

New screen savers. Which is all you need to know about whether this is a major update.

Presenter Overlay. This new feature lets users present and share work while displaying an overlay of themselves over any video conferencing app. It also supports reactions.

Safari improvements. Apple’s web browser now supports multiple user profiles, an improved Private Browsing experience with better anti-tracking functionality, and the ability to pin websites to the dock as if they were apps.

Game Mode. This feature customizes the Mac’s performance to provide more consistent frame rates in games while reducing the latency of wireless game controllers and AirPods.
