Surface Pro with LTE Advanced Gets a Reliability Update

Posted on June 8, 2018 by Paul Thurrott in Microsoft Surface with 4 Comments

Microsoft’s Surface Pro with LTE Advanced received a firmware update last night that improves the reliability of broadband data.

“A new firmware update for the Surface Pro with LTE Advanced (Model 1807) is now available,” Microsoft’s Brandon Records revealed. “This new firmware for the Surface Mobile Broadband Update Device improves LTE network reliability.”

The Surface Pro update history website confirms the update, noting that it addresses reliability, but not security, connectivity, compatibility, performance, or battery life. It describes the update like so:

  • Surface Mobile Broadband Update Device – Firmware version 18.02.08.1700 improves LTE network reliability.

The update is available from Windows Update, of course. But IT pros will also find this update in the latest version of the Surface Pro LTE Drivers and Firmware download too.

I recall during Windows Weekly that someone mentioned that HP would be releasing firmware updates that would actually increase the LTE performance on the Envy X2. Assuming that’s true, I wonder if Microsoft might eventually do the same for Surface?

This computer has been a nightmare since 1803 was installed. Blue screens of death every few hours does not make for a productive machine. I really hope this one works

Wow MSFT should be shouting this from the rooftops! Data that can be relied on is the holy grail for all data scientists, pollsters, and the like. Much of the data I see is riddled with errors, and fake news. Keep up the good work MSFT.
