iFixIt Partners with Microsoft on Surface Repair Tools

iFixit Announced today that it has partnered with Microsoft on a new line of repair tools for recent Surface PCs.

“Microsoft has taken a big step toward making repair accessible to their customers, and their timing is perfect as Right to Repair gains momentum across the US,” iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens said. “Having OEM tools available will give repair technicians the ability to help their customers keep their devices alive for longer.”

The new tools are available for purchase by iFixit Pro independent repairers, Microsoft Authorized Service Providers, Microsoft Experience Centers, and Microsoft commercial customers, Mr. Wiens added. There are three tools—the Surface Display Bonding Frame for Surface Pro 7+ and 8, the Surface Battery Cover for Surface Laptop 3+, Surface Laptop Go, Laptop SE, and Laptop Studio, and the Surface Display Debonding Tool for Surface Pro 7+, Pro 8, and Pro X, plus various weights and accessories. Each was designed by Microsoft and manufactured by iFixIt.

“These tools enable precision debonding and rebonding of adhesive for select Microsoft Surface models and will undergo the same rigorous quality testing and attention to detail that we give to all of our products,” Wiens noted.

Individuals who are interested in repairing Surface PCs can apply for iFixItPro.

I think Apple has it right. Let anyone buy the tools and parts. Then after selling them those, when they break it, they can charge them to repair it, or sell them a new one.
