Microsoft has been working to make its Surface PCs more and more repairable with each passing generation, and it announced its in-house replacement parts program back in June along with free repair guides. So the iFixit program complements that effort and the repair programs offered by Microsoft’s commercial resellers.

“iFixit will offer the entire suite of repairable components to technically inclined consumers for out-of-warranty and will enable customers to purchase replacement components along with any necessary tools as well as to consult official Surface repair guides, common repair questions, and videos in a single location managed by the world’s largest online repair community,” Ostrum adds.

Repairable Surface PCs include Surface Pro 7, Surface Pro 7+, Surface Pro X, Surface Pro 9, Surface Pro 9 5G, Surface Laptop 3, Surface Laptop 4, Surface Laptop 5, Surface Laptop Go 2, Surface Laptop Studio, Surface Studio 2+, and Surface Laptop SE. To give you an idea of how much this has improved over time, Surface Pro 7, released in 2019, offers only one repairable part, its kickstand, while the Surface Pro 9 5G from 2022 offers 13.)
