August Firmware Updates for Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 Improve Windows 10 Graphics Performance

Microsoft has released the August 2015 firmware updates for its Surface lineup, with only two of the devices—Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3—seeing updates, and both only for Windows 10. In both cases, the update improves graphics performance and stability in Microsoft’s latest desktop OS.

Here’s what’s new this month.

Surface RT, Surface 2, Surface Pro

There were no firmware updates for these models in August.

Surface 3

I’m a bit curious that there weren’t any firmware updates for Surface 3, given the newness of the device and the recent expansion of LTE models. Looking at Microsoft’s Surface Support web site, however, I see that Surface 3 is the only Surface device that doesn’t have a note about August at all. (For example, devices that didn’t get updates mention that “No product updates were released for [that device] in August.”) So either an August firmware update is still coming, or Microsoft is simply being Microsoft.

Surface Pro 2

Surface Pro 2 receives Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics Family, which adds the following for Windows 10 only:

HD Graphics Family driver update (v10.18.15.4256) improves graphics performance and stability on Windows 10.

Surface Pro 3

Surface Pro 2 receives Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics Family, which adds the following for Windows 10 only:

HD Graphics Family driver update (v10.18.15.4256) improves graphics performance and stability on Windows 10.

In other words, not much.
