Good news for those living outside the United States and Canada who would like to purchase Microsoft’s awesome Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID: It’s now available for pre-order in 26 new markets.
“We’ve heard from a lot of customers that they really love the convenience and security of Windows Hello, which allows them to log into their device with just a look or a touch,” the Microsoft Devices Team writes in a new post to the Microsoft Devices Blog. “The Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID, which allows you to log in with your fingerprint on your Surface Pro 4 or Surface Pro 3.”

Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID was announced alongside Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book back in October, but it’s availability has been limited to just two markets since launch: The US and Canada.
But now, the Type Cover—which, again, also works with Surface Pro 3—is being made available in the following markets as well: Austria, Australia, Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
Surface Pro 4 (like Surface Book) comes with a Windows Hello-compatible camera for facial recognition, but I happen to prefer fingerprint reader sign-in. And of course if you’re a Surface Pro 3 user, this is a neat way to extend the life of your device.
While there’s no word yet on when the Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID will ship in these additional markets, or how much it will cost, the Type Cover costs $160 in the United States. It is available only in black (or what Microsoft calls “Onyx”), while the other Surface Pro 4 Type Covers (without a fingerprint reader) are available in various color choices.
