Microsoft Issues Firmware Updates for Surface Book and Surface Pro 4

Microsoft has issued June 2016 firmware updates for its Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 tablets. And if I’m reading this right, they may have just fixed an issue I’d been experiencing with Surface Book.

I brought Surface Book with me on a recent long weekend trip to Fort Collins, Colorado. Twice on that trip, I opened up the device to discover it booting from a cold stop, rather than resuming from sleep. Meaning that, yes, I actually lost work both times. This was actually surprising to me, as Microsoft’s January fixes for Surface Book had, for the time at least, fixed my issues and put an end to the ignominy ofSurfacegate. My guess now is that some subsequent firmware update—Microsoft’s misnaming of what are really just driver updates—might be the culprit.

So I’ll be eager to test this, though of course I won’t try it with live data this time. Anyway. Here’s what’s new.

Surface Book

Microsoft driver update for Surface UEFI. Surface UEFI 89.1203.768.0 improves system stability when the device resumes operation from sleep or hibernation, and optimizes battery use in connected standby.

Microsoft driver update for Surface Base Firmware Update.Surface Base Firmware Update 1.2.104.0 reduces the occurrence of unexpected shutdowns while the device is sleeping.

Microsoft driver update for Surface Integration. Surface Integration Driver 1.1.291.0 resolves issues where the touch screen remains active when the clipboard is closed against the keyboard.

Surface Pro 4

Microsoft driver update for Surface UEFI. Surface UEFI 89.1203.768.0 improves system stability when the device resumes operation from sleep or hibernation, and optimizes battery use in connected standby.

Microsoft driver update for Surface Integration. Surface Integration Driver 1.0.81.0 resolves issues where the touch screen remains active when the cover is closed against the screen.
