Last week, when Microsoft announced the Surface Book, they said that there would be a 1 TB model. When pre-orders were opened, this model was absent but the company quietly updated their pre-order page to include this device.
The cost? $3199. It’s certainly not cheap but Microsoft is promoting the Surface Book as the ‘ultimate laptop’ and for the top end model, you should expect a stratospheric price. Of course, it’s all solid state storage, has 16 GB of RAM and is the top end of a premium machine, so pricing was not expected to be palatable.

Still, the laptop is now available for pre-order but you should be aware that Microsoft is currently saying the device will not ship until January 22nd. In fact, all of the Surface Book pre-orders are now saying that will not ship on the release date of October 26th and depending on the model, a delay of up to 8 weeks could occur.
The initial demand for the Surface Book has to be appeasing to Microsoft as not only is this a new device for the company but it is also one that commands a premium with an entry price starting at $1499. Even with that price, seeing how all the models are sold out of their initial inventory, Microsoft clearly made a good pitch to the consumer during their keynote which resulted in the strong demand.
