Anniversary Update Starts Rolling Out on Windows 10 Mobile

Two weeks after Microsoft delivered the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 for PCs, tablets, HoloLens, and IoT, the firm has begun the roll out on Windows phones too.

“The Windows 10 Anniversary Update has begun rolling out for Windows 10 Mobile,” Microsoft’s Michael Fortin reveals in an addendum to an August 2 blog post about the Anniversary Update launch. “The Anniversary Update includes additional features and improvements for your Windows 10 phone.”

You can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings, Update & Security, Phone Update and tapping the Check for updates button. But you could be in for a long wait, as “availability may vary by manufacturer, model, country or region, mobile operator or service provider, hardware limitations and other factors,” Microsoft notes.

So I’ll just repeat the advice I’ve been giving since last year. If you love Windows phone, and will continue to use Windows phone, and you’ve decided to move forward with Windows 10 Mobile, and you’re lucky enough to be using one of the few compatible handsets, then please by all that is holy join the Windows Insider program and enroll your phone in the deployment ring that makes the most sense to you. (Probably Fast ring.)

Either way, welcome to the future. I’m curious to see how quickly non-Insider handsets are upgraded.
