The redesigned Google TV entertainment hub that recently launched on Android is now available on iOS. The new Google TV iOS app is available as an update to the existing Play Movies & TV app, and it can now do much more than provide access to movies and TV shows purchased on Google Play.
Google TV acts as a central entertainment hub, and it can help you find what to watch across the different streaming apps you subscribe to. Users can also create a unified watchlist with content from Prime Video, Apple TV+, HBO Max, or YouTube (Netflix is a notable absent), making it easier to jump right in where they left off on the big screen.
If you own a Google TV or Android TV device, you can also use the Google TV app on iOS and Android as a virtual remote for your TV. The app lets you use your phone’s keyboard to type passwords, and it also supports voice with Google Assistant.
In many ways, this new Google TV app is very similar to the Apple TV app on iOS, which also integrates with other streaming apps (again, with the exception of Netflix). Overall, both apps do a pretty good job at providing recommendations based on what you love, though the Apple TV app tends to put a big emphasis on Apple TV+ content.
