YouTube appears to have quietly launched a new Podcasts page on youtube.com/podcasts. As reported by 9to5Google, the new page started to go live in late July for some users, but it’s not available for all YouTube users yet.
Google is adding this new Podcasts page to the “Explore” section of YouTube, alongside the Gaming, Music, Live, and other categories. As of today, this new Podcasts page appears to be pretty barebones, and it highlights popular podcast episodes, channels, and playlists.
The listening experience doesn’t appear to be optimized for podcast listeners, and users get the standard video experience on YouTube. The improved listening controls available for YouTube Premium subscribers aren’t available for podcast episodes either.
Earlier this year, a leaked Google internal presentation revealed that the company was working on new tools for podcast creators on the platform. The additions included dedicated pages for shows and new podcast cards in search results, though none of these new features appear to be live yet.
YouTube remains a pretty big platform for podcast creators, though Google also launched a dedicated Podcasts app on the web and mobile devices. It’s not clear yet if Google will keep supporting this app or if the company’s podcast strategy will be focused on YouTube going forward.
