Google TV Update Brings Performance Improvements and Storage Optimizations

Google has started rolling out a new Google TV update that brings performance and storage improvements on devices running the modified Android TV interface. This includes Google’s Chromecast with Google TV, smart TVs, and other streaming boxes running Google TV.
First of all, Google said that it has updated Google TV devices and remotes to improve responsiveness. “We reduced the time it takes to wake up your Google TV, the response time between your TV and button clicks on your remote, and the amount of time you see the loading animation when rebooting your device,” the company explained.

On the storage front, Google TV devices are getting a new App Hibernation feature that will automatically push background apps into hibernation mode when they’re not used for over 30 days, which will help to save space. Moreover, Google TV now supports Android app bundles, which can reduce the size of apps by roughly 25%.
A device like the Google Chromecast with Google TV only comes with 8GB of storage, which is really not much if you want to install a lot of Android apps. In comparison, the latest Apple TV 4K includes either 64GB or 128GB of storage, though its price is almost three times higher.
These improvements are rolling out automatically to all Google TV devices running Android TV 12 or newer. “We’re committed to always improving your Google TV experience and have more updates to come later this year,” Google said yesterday.
