Camtasia Brings AI to Video Creation and Editing

TechSmith announced that it is using AI to accelerate video creation and editing in its Camtasia screen recorder utility via a new feature called Rev.

“Rev is an innovative AI-assisted workflow within Camtasia, the company’s award-winning, user-friendly, all-in-one screen recording and video editing solution,” the announcement press release notes. “Available as part of the latest Camtasia 2023 update, Camtasia Rev guides users through various size, layout, background, effect, and filter choices, empowering users of all skill levels to quickly create professional quality videos that inspire, educate, and engage their audiences.”

Rev kicks in after users have created a screen recording, providing aspect ratio formatting that’s optimized for specific sharing platforms. It then steps them through design layouts and more formatting options using a streamlined workflow that includes in-place previews, video exporting, and online sharing. And users can always move into Camtasia’s traditional non-linear editor if needed.

The idea here is to eliminate the most complex and ponderous parts of the video editing process, eliminating option overload. Rev provides five specific editing steps that include size (aspect ratio), layout, background, effects, and filters and will allegedly work well for novices and professionals alike.

Camtasia also now integrates with TechSmith’s Audiate audio recorder and text-based editing solution, so that any audio edits made in Audiate will now automatically sync with the corresponding video file.

Camtasia costs $180 per year or in a bundle with Audiate for $380, though existing customers will get discounted pricing and those with an active Maintenance contract will receive this upgrade for free. I’m hoping to take a look at this app soon, it’s been a while.

You can learn more about Camtasia on the TechSmith website.
