YouTube is Testing New Generative AI Features

Google has started testing two new generative AI features on YouTube that are currently only available for a subset of YouTube Premium subscribers. The first one will provide AI-generated comment summaries for long-form videos.

This feature is mostly designed to help content creators understand what their audience says about their videos. Comment summaries will display different topics highlighting what people said in the comments section.

“If you’re part of this experiment, when you open the comment section on mobile, you’ll see a new option to sort by Topics on some videos,” the YouTube team explained. “Creators can use these comment summaries to more quickly jump into comment discussions on their videos, or to draw inspiration for new content based on what their audiences are discussing.”

The second new generative AI feature coming to YouTube is an “Ask” button that will let users ask questions about the video they’re currently watching. The YouTube team said that this conversational AI tool can summarize the video, recommend related content, and more. “For certain academic videos, the tool can aid learning journeys by providing quizzes and responses that encourage deeper understanding,” the team said.
