Spotify Adds Music Videos For Premium Users in Select Markets

Spotify Music Videos

Spotify has started rolling out music videos for Premium members in select markets today. The company says that music videos are currently in beta, and it’s starting with a selection of clips from artists such as Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, and Ice Spice, Aluna and Asake.

Music videos are currently available for Premium members in the U.K., Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya. If you’re in one of these markets, you’ll see a “Switch to Video” toggle for supported music tracks. Tapping that button will launch the video from the beginning, and you can switch back to background listening anytime by tapping “Switch to Audio.”

YouTube Music provides a similar experience, allowing users to switch to the music video of a song (when it’s available on YouTube) on the fly. However, unlike on Spotify, switching to the video version of a song on YouTube Music doesn’t restart it from the beginning. YouTube Music also lets users access any videos posted on YouTube and add them to their playlists.

According to a report from TechCrunch, Spotify is hosting music videos directly instead of relying on other platforms like YouTube. This also means that music videos on Spotify will play without any ads.

Spotify is already working to expand its catalog of music videos and make it available for Premium members in more countries. “In this beta launch, we’ll continue to innovate and iterate based on feedback from both users and artists,” the company said today.
