YouTube Music is Testing Spotify-Like Activity Feed

YouTube Music Activity Feed

The YouTube Music team appears to be testing a new Activity feed that lets users keep up with new content from artists they follow and more. The feature currently appears as a bell icon on the top right corner of the mobile app, and tapping it opens an Activity feed with a list of updates in chronological order.

I had the feature briefly appear in the app earlier today, but my Activity Feed was empty. However, Reddit user No_concentrate7395 shared a screenshot of the Activity feed working as expected (via 9to5Google), and you can see how it looks below.

Spotify has a similar “What’s new” feed that aggregates new music releases from artists you follow as well as new episodes from podcasts in your library. Personally, this is a feature I use all the time, but the main YouTube app also has its own notification bell that lets you catch up with new videos from channels you follow.

YouTube Music is a great app for people who are already heavily invested in the YouTube platform. However, it’s probably not as good as Spotify when it comes to keeping up with the artists and podcasts you care about. The transition from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music is still ongoing, and as often with Google, users will need to be patient as the company rebuilds basic features from scratch.
