YouTube Adds AI-Powered ‘Jump Ahead’ Feature for Premium Users

YouTube app

YouTube is expanding access to an AI-powered “Jump Ahead” feature that’s been available for a subset of users since March (via 9to5Google). The experimental feature is now available for YouTube Premium users in the US, and it’s designed to help users jump over the most commonly skipped section of a video.

“Jump Ahead is a Premium-only feature that combines watch data and AI to help identify the next best point a viewer typically skips ahead to,” the YouTube team explained. In practice, mobile users who double-tap to skip forward in a video may see a “jump ahead” button that, when tapped, will make users jump to the segment most viewers usually skip ahead to.

The YouTube team said that this “Jump Ahead” button will only show up on English videos, though not all of them are currently eligible. Moreover, the experimental feature is will be only available on the YouTube Android app until June 1.

If you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber in the US, you’ll need to opt in by going to Settings > Try experimental new features on the YouTube Android app. Google also keeps a list of experimental YouTube features on this page, though be aware that “Jump Ahead” and other new features may or may not roll out to the public.
