Spotify is adding a new way to make playlists more personal with the creation of custom covert art on its mobile apps. The new feature is launching in beta today on Spotify for iOS and Android, and it’s available for both Free and Premium users.
While Spotify users could already upload custom pictures for their playlist, the mobile app now lets users get more creative with different text styles, visual effects, stickers, and more to use on these pictures. This is probably something that will appeal more to millenials, but an original playlist cover can certainly help to improve discovery.
To create custom cover art for a playlist, Spotify users will need to tap the three-dot button on the playlist page and then select “Create cover art.” After picking up a picture to use, they’ll be able to add various elements to it including custom text, background colors and gradients, and more. Please note that it’s currently only possible to save one custom cover art per playlist at a time.
“With the feature currently available in beta to users in English in 65 markets, we’re excited for fans to personalize their music playlists like never before. We’ll keep innovating and expanding the tool, so stay tuned for what’s to come,” the Spotify team said today.
In other Spotify-related news, Premium members in 85 new markets can now watch music videos for a growing selection of songs. The company also made 200,000 audiobooks available for Premium users in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
