Spotify Adds Sleep Timer, Playlists, and New Immersive Features for Audiobooks

Spotify Audiobooks immersive features

Spotify has started rolling out new audiobook features following the recent expansion of its Audiobooks in Premium offering to select EU countries. The app now offers a built-in Sleep Timer for audiobooks, and it also let users create and browse audiobook playlists.

The new Sleep Timer for audiobooks should be quite handy for Premium users who don’t want to waste their 15 hours of audiobook listening per month. “This feature is a great way to ensure you’re catching every minute,” the Spotify team emphasized.

In addition to curated audiobook playlists, Spotify has also started testing Author Pages for a limited number of authors. Similar to artists pages, these new pages will list all the audiobooks an author has made available on Spotify alongside some biographical information. Authors and publishers will also be able to use Countdown Pages to promote their upcoming audiobooks and let listeners save them ahead of their release.

To make the audiobook listening experience a bit more immersive, Spotify will also let authors and publishers submit video clips for their audiobooks. “This can be an interview snippet, a backstage video from the audio recording session, a video message from the author, or something else,” the company explained.

On select audiobooks, Spotify users will also be able to check out illustrations, photos, and graphics to complete their listening experience. When available, these supporting materials will be available in the “extras” section of an audiobook.
