YouTube TV is about to lose all Paramount content after today, February 13 as Google failed to negotiate a new agreement with the company that wouldn’t result in a price increase. The surprise announcement came yesterday after YouTube already got a $10 price bump to $82.99 per month in December.
“We’ve been working hard to reach a fair agreement with Paramount that allows us to keep their channels, including CBS and CBS Sports, on YouTube TV without passing on additional costs to our subscribers. Unfortunately, despite our good faith negotiations, we haven’t been successful yet,” the YouTube team explained yesterday.
Unless negotiations lead to a last-minute surprise, all Paramount content, including CBS and CBS Sports, will disappear from YouTube TV starting tomorrow. Subscribers will also lose access to their recordings of all Paramount content, including the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and BET+ add-on services.
As a consolation, Google plans to offer YouTube TV subscribers an $8 credit, which is the price of one month of Paramount+. “Paramount is an important partner for us and as you can imagine, this is not the outcome that we want. We’re still in active conversations with Paramount and are hopeful we can come to an agreement to keep their content available on YouTube TV,” the team said yesterday. Stay tuned as negotiations are likely ongoing as of this writing.
Update February 14 3 AM ET: Paramount content remains available on YouTube TV as discussions are still ongoing. “We’ve reached a short-term extension with Paramount to keep their content on YouTube TV,” the YouTube team posted on X. “Subscribers continue to have access to Paramount channels, including CBS. We appreciate your patience as we continue to negotiate on your behalf.”
