YouTube has started testing a new Premium plan for two users in select markets. The new plan, which is similar to Spotify’s Premium Duo subscription, is currently available for select users in India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and France, MoneyControl is reporting today.
“We’re experimenting with new ways to provide greater flexibility and value to our YouTube Premium subscribers, including offering a two-person Premium plan option, allowing two people to share a subscription at a reduced cost,” the YouTube team confirmed in a statement shared with MoneyControl. The new two-person Premium plan is priced at Rs 219/month in India and 19.99€ in France (approximately $22.59). Overall, this is slightly cheaper than the YouTube Premium Family plan ($22.99/month in the US), which expands Premium benefits to up to 6 household members.
YouTube Premium provides an ad-free experience on YouTube, background listening on mobile, and a couple of other perks. It is a great value if you’re a heavy YouTube user, and YouTube Music Premium, a solid alternative to Spotify Premium and Apple Music, is also included in the subscription.
While we don’t know yet if Google plans to make this new two-person YouTube Premium plan available in more markets, the company recently launched a cheaper YouTube Premium Lite plan in the US, Thailand, Germany, and Australia. At $7.99/month, this new plan only provides an ad-free experience on “most” YouTube videos.
