TechSmith Releases Camtasia Online for Free Screen Recordings

Camtasia online

Camtasia maker TechSmith now offers a free, streamlined, and web-based version of its popular screen recorder and video editor.

“We’re excited to launch the first free, online version of Camtasia, a foundational step in bringing the power of our award-winning solution to more people, right in their browser,” TechSmith CTO Tony Lambert says. “Video is a team sport now, and Camtasia online makes it easier for creators of all skill levels to collaborate and create high-quality content from anywhere. While this first release focuses on streamlined creation, it will continue to grow in capability, and users can move projects into the Camtasia desktop editor for more advanced editing when needed.”

Camtasia online lets anyone create, customize, share, and collaborate on high-quality 1080p videos with no watermarks, subscription fees, or downloads. This initial version is particularly well-suited for walkthroughs and tutorials, TechSmith says, and it works in Chrome (and, presumably, other Chromium-based browsers) and Safari. Key features include:

  • High-quality screen recording up to five minutes at 1080p (Full HD). Camtasia online records the screen, camera, and microphone on separate layers so they can each be edited independently.
  • Design options, with over 85 pre-defined looks and further customization via effects and backgrounds for both camera and screen. It also supports background removal, borders, drop shadows, corner rounding, masks, and reflections, all of which can be applied before or after recording.
  • Editing features like trim that can be reversed at any time.
  • Collaboration capabilities so you can invite others to work on projects or specific scenes.
• Export and sharing options via link share or export directly to the Camtasia 2025 desktop editor and its more advanced features.

You can find Camtasia online on the TechSmith website.
