YouTube’s Trending Page and Trending Now List Are Going Away

Google is planning to discontinue the Trending Page and Trending Now List on YouTube in the coming weeks to better adapt to how users discover new content on the platform. The company will be shifting to charts for music, movies, and other categories, which it sees as better discovery tools than an “all-encompassing Trending list.”

“Today, trends consist of many videos created by many fandoms, and there are more micro-trends enjoyed by diverse communities than ever before. Viewers increasingly learn about trends in different places across YouTube – from recommendations and search suggestions to Shorts, comments and Communities. With these shifts, we’ve seen visits to the Trending page decrease significantly, especially over the last five years,” the company explained in a Community post (via TechCrunch).

Google launched a new YouTube Charts page where you can currently find charts for trending music videos, top songs, and artists, trending movie trailers, and weekly top podcast shows. Google plans to add more chart categories over time, including Gaming. At the moment, trending gaming videos can still be found on the Gaming Explore page.

While Google believes its new category-specific charts will improve content discovery on YouTube, the platform will continue to rely on its algorithm to offer personalized video recommendations to users. “This way, we can show a wider range of popular content that’s relevant, and it feels more natural to how viewers already find new videos,” the company said yesterday.
