Spotify Launches New Audiobook+ Add-on Subscriptions in Select Markets

Spotify is launching today two new Audiobooks+ add-on subscriptions in select markets that provide additional listening hours every month. One of the two new plans also unlocks audiobook listening for additional members on Spotify Premium Family and Duo plans.

As of today, Spotify Premium offers 15 hours of audiobook listening time per month to Premium Individual subscribers and Duo and Family plan managers only. The new Audiobooks+ add-on adds 15 extra hours of audiobook listening time every month on top of what Premium subscribers already get.

The second new add-on, Audiobook+ for Plan members, unlocks 15 hours of audiobook listening every month for other family members. “These new plan options give listeners more flexibility for their audiobook listening on Spotify, ultimately opening up the format to millions of new potential fans worldwide. This is all part of our goal to help publishers and authors reach new listeners, grow revenue, and together, help the book industry scale new heights,” the company said today.

With the Audiobook+ for Plan members add-on, family members will need to request audiobook access from their plan manager. It will also be possible for them to buy a one-time 10-hour top-up if they run out of hours before their monthly billing cycle refreshes.

These two new Audiobooks+ add-ons are available for Spotify Premium users in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Spotify also told TechCrunch that similar plans are coming later in the US.
