YouTube Music Adds AI Playlist Generator for Premium Users

YouTube Music

YouTube Music is starting to roll out a new AI playlist generator feature, but only for Premium users on mobile. It lets users describe what they want to listen to using text or voice, and YouTube Music should generate a personalized playlist in seconds.

The streaming service is quite late to the party, as rivals Spotify and Amazon Music launched their own AI playlists years ago. Spotify also recently introduced “Prompted playlists,” which are AI-generated playlists that use data from users’ entire listening history.

To create an AI Playlist, YouTube Music Premium users just need to go to the app’s Library tab, tap the “New” button at the bottom right corner of the app, and choose “AI Playlist.” I’m not seeing the new option yet, but this is likely rolling out gradually.

There’s probably a lot more the YouTube team can do with AI in YouTube Music: Spotify launched its AI DJ three years ago, and it’s not hard to imagine how YouTube Music could do even better using its own NotebookLM technology.
