Plex’s Lifetime Pass Will Soon Be 200% More Expensive

Plex Lifetime Pass

Plex has just announced another price increase for its Lifetime Plex Pass, which will cost a whopping $749.99 starting on July 1, 2026. That is a *check notes* 200% price increase, after Plex already raised the price of the license from $119.99 to $249.99 a year ago.

Plex is a popular and ubiquitous media center solution that’s free to use, but a Plex Pass provides advanced features, including remote streaming, hardware transcoding, offline downloads, and more. A Plex Pass is priced at $6.99/month or $69.99/year, but power users can also purchase a lifetime pass for $249.99 until July 1.

“When Plex first started, we were movie and TV fans who wanted to make something great for people like us. We chose to offer a Lifetime subscription early on because we knew many of our customers would rather pay a higher one-time fee for software that they can depend on every day,” the company explained.

“We’ve considered eliminating the Lifetime Plex Pass in the past, given that recurring subscriptions help us sustain long-term development, but we know it’s still a valuable option for many in our community. So instead of retiring it, we’re keeping it available at a price that reflects the real, ongoing value of the software we’re committed to building and maintaining for years to come,” the announcement reads.

Nothing will change for existing Lifetime Plex Pass holders, and monthly and annual Plex Pass subscriptions also aren’t getting a price increase. However, if you really like Plex and would like to pay once to access premium features forever, now is the time to purchase a Lifetime Pass. Otherwise, you may want to look at Jellyfin, a free and open-source alternative to Plex.
