Google is raising the price of its YouTube Premium individual subscription in some EU countries and other markets such as Singapore. 9to5Google is reporting that subscribers in Finland, Romania, and other EU markets are now being notified by email about the upcoming price increases.
In the EU, the price of YouTube Premium Individual varies by country. In France, where I am currently, YouTube Premium is priced at €12.99 (approximately $14.99), but I haven’t received any emails about price increases yet. However, subscribers in Finland are reporting that the local price is going up from €14.99 to €16.99. In other parts of Europe, the price is going up from €13.99 to €15.99.
YouTube Premium offers ad-free viewing, background play on mobile devices, offline downloads, and an enhanced 1080p quality option on eligible videos. YouTube Music Premium, Google’s alternative to Apple Music and Spotify Premium, is also included in the subscription.
While YouTube Premium remains a good value if you care about the YouTube Music Premium perk, Google recently made its cheaper YouTube Premium Lite plan available globally. This new tier lets subscribers watch most videos ad-free (except for music videos), and it also offers background play on mobile and offline downloads for eligible videos.
To make its Google AI plans more attractive to consumers, Google also included YouTube Premium Lite in its Google AI Pro plan ($19.99/month in the US), while YouTube Premium Individual is now offered with the $99.99/month Google AI Ultra plan. For those who really don’t want to pay for YouTube Premium, the privacy-focused Brave browser blocks ads, trackers, and other distracting elements on mobile. It also enables background play with lockscreen controls on mobile devices.
