Spotify has begun rolling out a new QR code verification process to confirm whether members of a Premium Family plan live with the plan manager. The company’s $21.99 Premium Family plan requires all members to live at the same address, but a support page (via TechCrunch) about family address verification now mentions this new QR code verification method
« We may ask some Premium Family members to verify they live with the plan manager by scanning a QR code, » the company explained. When prompted, family plan members will have seven days to scan the QR code on the plan manager’s phone; otherwise, they won’t be able to join a different Family or Duo plan for 12 months.
In recent days, several Reddit users on a Spotify Premium Family plan reported that they were seeing these new prompts to scan a QR code on the phone of the plan manager. During the company’s Q3 2026 earnings call, Spotify co-CEO Alex Norström described the new QR code verification process as a “routine improvement.”
“Family Plan has existed for a long while. It has been around for, I think it is now close to 12, 13 years in Spotify history, and it makes up a pretty significant proportion of our subscriber base. As such, it is important for us to just make sure over time that we improve the verification methods that we have,” the exec said.
