Google Photos now offers the Veo-based image-to-video capability that Google previously added to Gemini. There’s also a new Remix feature and a new Create tab that houses all of the service’s image transformation tools.
“Google Photos began as a place to store your memories and turned into much more. It’s a way to explore your images and reminisce, share them easily, and even get creative,” Google Photos and Google One director Josh Sassoon explains. “Today we’re introducing a few new creative tools that will help you bring your memories to life. With new features for making videos from still photos, transforming pictures into illustrations, and more, there’s a lot to try, and then share them with friends and family.”
Here’s what’s new.
Photo to video. As noted, this makes short videos from still photos in your Google Photos gallery, but now there are two default prompts, “Subtle movements” and “I’m feeling lucky.” This feature is rolling out to Google Photos on Android and iPhone in the U.S. today.
Remix. This feature lets you transform photos in your gallery into anime, comics, sketches, or 3D animations. It’s rolling out to Google Photos on Android and iPhone in the U.S. in the coming weeks.
Create tab. This is where you can find Google Photos’ growing set of photo transformation tools, including Photo to video, Remix, collages, highlight videos, and more. It will begin rolling out in the U.S. in August.
Google notes that All videos and photos generated with Photo to video and Remix will include an invisible SynthID digital watermark. And these features are still experimental, so they’ll improve over time.
