As promised, Sonos unveiled Sonos Ace, its first-ever headphones, priced at $449 and available starting June 5.
“They’re here!” Sonos CEO Patrick Spence writes in the announcement post. “Fans have asked us for years to bring the Sonos experience to headphones – and we knew our first foray into the category needed to champion the type of innovation and sound experience Sonos has become synonymous with. Sonos Ace leverages everything we’ve learned over two decades as an audio leader to bring stunning sound, sleek design, and long-standing comfort to one of the largest and most popular audio categories worldwide.”
Given all the leaks, there’s little new to report here. Sonos Ace is a premium set of Bluetooth-based over-the-air headphones that provide active noise cancelation (ANC) and lossless and spatial audio capabilities. There are black and white versions, and they offer 30 hours of battery life, with a 3-minute charge adding 30 minutes of juice.
The big selling point here, obviously, is integration with the broader Sonos ecosystem. And to that end, Sonos Ace delivers just the basics by letting customers swap the TV audio from a compatible Sonos soundbar to Sonos Ace by tapping a button. Later this year, Sonos will update Ace with a TrueCinema feature that maps your space and renders a realistic, customized surround sound system.
